There is a harsh reality to the work of farmers, specifically those hired to pick tomatoes for fast-food giants and other restaurant chains. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, or CIW, a community based farmworker organization from Florida, has campaigned for years for an end to sub-poverty wages and sweatshop conditions in the fields. They recently celebrated a victory against McDonalds on the Chicago leg of the CIW 2007 Truth Tour but there is more work ahead.
They are hosting a rally to protest Burger King, and get them to join other major companies in improving farmworker conditions and wages.
