About the Conference
An offshoot of the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. Approximately 200 students and their faculty & staff advisors from colleges and universities from across the country will be coming to the University of Miami for two solid days of education and activism. The February Conference will focus on some of the most pressing issues related to domestic and international poverty including housing and homelessness; hunger; international economics and globalization; and humanitarian crises. In addition, the conference will examine the inter-connectedness (and need) of student community service and advocacy, with panels and presentations at past conferences including such topics as sustainable water projects, fair trade, faith and advocacy, and community development.
For every five (5) individuals or students from your school or organization who register for the conference, the sixth person will be able to attend for free. To be eligible for this discount, there must be one payment made for all the school or group's attendees either by check or online credit card payment.
Any and all individuals who would like to submit a proposal for a workshop and/or panel discussion may do so at the website listed above. Does your school or organization have a particularly strong program or a solid training method? If so, feel free to submit a workshop proposal by February 7, 2008 that includes the following: title, presenter names, and a 50-word description of the workshops that describes what participants will learn. You will be notified beginning February 8th if your workshop has been accepted. All workshop sessions should be set to be one hour in length. Please feel free to pass this information along to any and all colleagues, students, co-workers, and/or community agencies who you believe might be interested in getting involved with the conference. We will soon begin distributing promotional material for the event – fliers, cards, and the like – and we will have plenty to provide you with copies if you might be interested in publicizing the event. Also, we will soon update the conference website with the registration form for the Networking, Opportunities and Action Fair to be held during the conference – for those of you who have a national affiliation with the organization you represent or are employed by – for the students who are NOT from the Miami area who might be interested in getting information about your respective organization(s) to take back to their homes.
