Andrea Perez Homar

“The days are very tiring and intense yet relaxing and re-energizing. It's hard to explain.  I was reading a passage in Isaiah 58 the other day and it goes something like this….

…and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

…You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

The reason why this passage spoke to me was because it helped me understand why we can still feel so refreshed and joyful after giving yourself and serving throughout the day.  I asked some of you to pray for strength during this time because I wasn't sure how my mind, heart, and body were going to react to all of this.  God has definitely taken care of this and for this I'm grateful”

“These kids, who in such a short amount of time have won my heart have and incredible joy in their soul.  My heart was shaken by their happiness which is driven by a genuine innocence that is constantly revealed through everything they do, from their dancing to their laughter to their servitude throughout the entire orphanage”

“Currently, I am serving full time in the babies' nursery, here there is a challenge regarding the staff. There are only five of us and we have to take care of eleven children between the ages of two and eight, plus an additional seven newborns.”

Rally for Florida Farmworkers

explotation_king.jpg

There is a harsh reality to the work of farmers, specifically those hired to pick tomatoes for fast-food giants and other restaurant chains. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, or CIW, a community based farmworker organization from Florida, has campaigned for years for an end to sub-poverty wages and sweatshop conditions in the fields. They recently celebrated a victory against McDonalds on the Chicago leg of the CIW 2007 Truth Tour but there is more work ahead.

They are hosting a rally to protest Burger King, and get them to join other major companies in improving farmworker conditions and wages.

Pray for Miami

Pray Mia

A friend, John Mcwhiter, has set up a prayer initiative for the the city of Miami called PRAYMIA.org. The site urges locals to devote sometime on Mondays to pray for the city and God's will for its restoration.

……………………………………………………

“We are all busy. Don’t be so busy today that you can’t find time to pray for this city where God has placed you.  This is not a weekly devotional.  It’s a call for believers in Miami to pray.  Are you praying for this city?  Are the believers you know praying for this city? Prayer changes us and it will change this city.  Why has God placed you here if not as an agent for change?  Why not stop right now for a couple of minutes and focus prayer on this city?

Please join in prayer today as we seek forgiveness for this city and a unification among believers. The prayer this week has been submitted by a young leader in the community.  He has a heart dedicated to ministry.  God is using him to teach and share scripture with people throughout the Miami community. His volunteer ministry takes him anywhere from deep conversations with celebrity athletes to joyful sharing with elementary kids and enthusiastic teaching for high school youth.  He has a sincere desire that all in this city — especially the young people — would come to know the Lord. So join with us as we take time today to cry out to our Lord for the healing of this city. Log onto the website (it won’t take long) to view today’s prayer and other prayers from leaders around Miami who have a heart for their city.”

Harold: A parable of Hope, Politics, and Race.

Harold

I heard this podcast this weekend. It's the remarkable story of Harold Washington. A man of great intelligence, influence, and a commitment to justice. There is tension when you seek “fairness” and justice in the world. Herold is a great example of the integrity, hope and selflessness it takes to make a difference.

The podcast is available free from “This American Life

84: Harold

A parable of politics and race in America. The story of Chicago's first black mayor, Harold Washington, told two decades after his death. Washington died on November 25, 1987.

Advent Conspiracy

Advent Conspiracy is an international movement restoring the scandal of Christmas by substituting compassion for consumption. Christ tends to get overlooked at Christmas. Let’s be honest. December comes and you think, “Ok, this is the year.” This time you’ll swear you’ll slow down and take it all in. Make the most with family. Help the needy. Zero in on what it really means to be a Christ follower during this holy season. What if you could inspire your church, your family and yourself to avoid being consumed by commercialism this Christmas?

We here Mosaic Miami are taking part in Advent Conspiracy. We plan to partner with Urban Resurrection (Micheal and Erika Philip and Laurie Cook), a ministry in the West Grove community.

AC Cover SmallThe goal of Advent Conspiracy is to

WORSHIP MORE • SPEND LESS

GIVE MORE • LOVE ALL

How would Christ have us celebrate his birth?

Haiti Project

We are looking for involvement…Seth, Antonine (who generously bring the delicious homemade food for all of us) & Joseph, and Kevin are going down to Haiti. They will be visiting the town where Antonine and Joseph have started a work, and two other ministries are doing effective things down there.

This sunday Seth will speak more on the concept of involvement there. Email him with questions or suggestions: clay4him@gmail.com
